Weather: We had another unseasonably warm November day. Wind direction shifted several times, cloud cover fluctuated from complete to 40 percent, and barometric pressure remained steady throughout the day. There was a haze present which made distant objects, like the wind turbines in Canada, difficult to see. Raptor Observations: Like the last several days have been, today was not a particularly good day to see migrating raptors. There were no raptors sighted during the first 2.5 hours of the count. Between 11:30 and 12, 25 raptors were spotted, but the total number in each of the following hours steadily declined. Non-raptor Observations: A few distant lines of ducks were spotted, as well as closer skeins of geese. Our little family of juvenile mallards, which visits us nearly every day, now consists mostly of birds in adult plumage. About 30 migrating American crows were counted, as well as about 60 Red-winged Blackbirds. Predictions: Tomorrow is predicted to be mostly sunny, with a southeasterly wind. It may not be until this weekend, when the temperature drops, that we see many raptors. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
