Hi, This afternoon between 2:45 & 4:45 I had approximately 1500 Sandhill Cranes
at varying distances from the road.  The bulk of them were in the very large
field west of Strongville Rd between the 7th & the 9th Concessions Sunnidale.
I had a 'moment' when a group of approximately 175 decided to cross the road,
right over head, in varying group sizes from 3 to about 40.  It took about half
an hour so I had great close views for quite some time.  The majority of the
Sandhills were in the southern half of this field but were widely spread. I
also had a Female Northern Harrier hovering beside the car & she dove into the
ditch but came up empty handed.  She then flew onto a hydro wire that crossed
the road about 50' in front of me. Had my 1st Rough Legged Hawk of the season.
A light phase on a hydro pole. Strongville Rd runs south of HWY 26 north of
Minnesing Wetlands & is east of County Rd 10 north of Angus & Brentwood.
Concessions 7 & 9 Sunnidale run east/west of County Rd 10. Good Birding Susan
Menzies
