The King Eider at the Amherst Island Ferry at Millhaven was still present
yesterday, with excellent views of it achieved from the ferry just prior to
its departure. Also, a total of 73 Common Loons were visible from the ferry
and from the south shore.

Amherst Island highlights included 78 Horned Grebes off the south shore, a
female Black Scoter along with 30 Tundra Swans off the tip of the Martin
Edwards Reserve (accessible only by Kingston Field Naturalist Club members)
, and a Northern Shrike near the parking area for that reserve. Raptors were
surprisingly scarce on the island: 1 NOGO, 1 RLHA, and 4 MAKE were tallied.

Directions as in previous postings for the Eider.

Happy Birding!
Michael Runtz
