Weather: Another unseasonably warm November day - light SW winds and relatively low barometric pressure. Raptor Observations: Very few raptors today. We did have a couple of appearances from a couple locals - a Cooper's and Red-tailed Hawk. We had a total of 2 migrants today - one a juvenile Cooper's Hawk that gave us a great flyover. Just when we were ready to call it a day, we heard some "cackling" to the north, and saw two Merlins chasing and diving at one another - quite an end to a slow day! One was counted as a migrant, while the other one seemed to be the "local" that has been frequenting the area all season. Non-raptor Observations: Many flight lines of waterfowl were seen headed out to Lake Erie - too distant for ID, but numbering in the hundreds or possibly thousands. A small raft of Ruddy Ducks was seen not too far from the count site, and a flight of Common Goldeneye was identified - probably 30 birds. Predictions: Rain is in the forecast through the morning and afternoon, so unfortunately very few raptors would be expected for our last count day of the season. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
