Hi all,
A few more details on the bird. I was posting from my cell phone so I did
not provide much detail!
I first found the bird about 09:00 about 200m past the little bridge on the
main dike trail. I only saw it briefly but very well.
I did not see it again, so moved on. Meanwhile, Steve Charbonneau and Allen
Woodliffe came along later, and we found the bird again in the same spot.
We had good views over the next hour, but it was difficult to get photos.
It would hide well in the cattail clumps.
It moved around a lot over 100m stretch, but always stayed in the same
general area 100-200m past the little bridge. We left the area around 11:00
and it was still present.
There is a broken white plastic 2" pipe that sticks up on the left side of
the dike as you walk out towards viewing tower. That is where it generally
hangs out.
Other birds included a large number of Mallard and Black Ducks, a Northern
Pintail and a Northern Shoveler among hundreds of Canada Geese. (seen from
tower).
Directions to St. Clair NWA:
NW of Chatham, go to Bear Line (N-S) up to Pain Court Line. Turn left and
go through the village of Pain Court past Jacob Road to TownLine Road. Turn
right and go some distance until past Belle Rose Line. You will see sign
for St. Clair on left. Go over bridge and make an immediate right turn and
proceed to parking area.
Cheers,
