Yesterday (March 2nd) afternoon (4:30 p.m.) I saw a female American
Kestrel on Ravenshoe Rd. on the south and north side of the road at R.R.
#119 roughly two kilometers west of Park Rd. and the railway track
crossing (Town of Georgina). The Kestrel was showing very well and I
observed from the car the bird for ten minutes. She had just caught a
vole in an open field to the south and was mantling it in the apple
orchard trees to the north side of Ravenshoe. Always a good winter bird
and a joy to see with its spectacular colours upon closer inspection. I
also saw the same bird this past Sunday so it must be hanging around and
would be a good photographers challenge I expect.
