Hi there,

Over a span of several days, while viewing the FeederWatch Canada camera
set up in a backyard in Manitouwadge, I observed all 4 subspecies of
redpoll: hornemanni, exilipes, rostrata, flammea. The Hornemann's
(hornemanni) was present yesterday, March 2nd, and the Greater (rostrata)
was present on both Feb 28th and March 1st. This brings me back to 22 March
2013, when Michael Runtz and I enjoyed a 4 subspecies day at the Hilda Rd.
feeders in the west end of Ottawa. Michael first spotted the Hornemann's --
a true snowball. Briefly, a second Hornemann's showed near the first one.
Instead of a faint leathery blush to its breast, it had a faint salmon
colouration -- assumed trait of a male. It is nice to sit back, sip coffee,
and enjoy the sights and sounds of hundreds of redpolls visiting a
feeder....remotely viewed from the comfort of one's own home :)

I have uploaded photos of the Hornemann's and the Greater here:

Regards,
Jon
