Hi there,

I just received a report (with photos) of two American White Pelicans
visiting a bay on Lower Rideau Lake, just south of Smiths Falls. The
observer mentioned that they've been there for a week now. The birds are
located near the southwestern edge of Slab Island, apparently frequenting a
spot called "Mud Cut" (this can be seen by searching Google Maps).
Visibility from shore appears like it may be a challenge, but two spots
worth stopping and scanning from are:

>From Lombardy Street (Highway 15) take Poonamalie Rd. to Bacchus Island
Rd., then turn left. Continue on Bacchus Island Rd. to Bacchus Island
itself, and drive to the southern tip of Bacchus Island, and scan Lower
Rideau Lake to the W and SW from there.

The other option would be to head further S along Highway 15 to Bay Rd.
Take Bay Rd. to R2 Rd., which branches northeast from Bay Rd. Continue
along R2 road to the dead end (close to Covell's Island / Petty's Bay).
>From here, scan NE.

Good birding,
