While out at the Monahan Drain flood control ponds in Kanata (west Ottawa) this afternoon there were several hundred Canada Geese resting in the water. They began taking off in small groups of 10-20. Monahan Drain is located near the corner of Eagleson Road and Hope Side Road
Suddenly something out of the ordinary caught my eye. One goose had a white head and grey bill but most of the body colouring was similar to a Canada Goose. I only had a few minutes to observe it from a great distance before it took off. From this image link below you can see that it had pink feet. My guess is that it may be a juvenile Blue Phase Snow Goose. Perhaps someone can confimr my preliminary ID? Unfortunately the sun was very bright and I blew out the whites on the head feathers. https://www.flickr.com/photos/38402205@N06/36956863030/in/dateposted-public/ Good birding!
