And thanks to several others who also helped with today's count including Tom B., Bob J. and Ronnie G. Weather: A few clouds first thing and then lots of sunshine and extremely warm with a temp to a high of 31C. Winds were light all day and somewhat variable in direction. Raptor Observations: A total of 312 birds tallied for the day... with the bulk being Sharpies (181) and Am. Kestrels (114) along with a single Bald Eagle, a few Osprey (4) and N. Harriers (5), a couple of Cooper's Hawks, Merlins (4) and a lone Peregrine... the 2nd of the season. Non-raptor Observations: Some good non-raptors today... with Pileated, Red-bellied and Red-headed Woodpeckers, RT Hummingbirds, Common Loons, Great Blue Heron and Belted Kingfisher. A good flight of Blue Jays today with a total of 687. Monarch count: 178 Also of note a couple of Pandora Sphinx catepillars... interesting given I remember photographing one near Sharpie Alley several years ago around the same time of year. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
