Visitors:
Today was filled with good birds, good diversity, and good people! Thank
you to everyone that came out to the tower today!
Weather:
Today we had beautiful hawkwatching weather! A good north and northwesterly
breeze, cooler temperatures, and clouds in the sky!
Raptor Observations:
Today was an excellent day for hawkwatching! A total of 1141 raptors were
tallied migrating, of 11 species! The three "money-makers" were Broad-wings
(426), Turkey Vultures (324), and Sharpies (228). Additionally, we had
respectable flights of Bald Eagles (16), a nice early flight of Red-tails
(28), and another decent Am. Kestrel flight (83).
Non-raptor Observations:
2220 Blue Jays were counted today, along with 138 Cedar Waxwings.
Additionally, fairly good passerine diversity today with 10 species of
warblers, including our first Orange-crowned of the year, along with
seasonal firsts of Golden-crowned Kinglet, and Dark-eyed Junco.. Winter is
coming.. Link to the full eBird checklist here:
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39447059 Only 14 Monarchs tallied
today, though this is a drastic under-count.
Predictions:
Southwesterly winds predicted overnight, but switching to westerly for the
morning, and eventually all the way to northerly winds in the evening.
There is a chance of a shower in the morning, but the risk decreases as the
day progresses.
