Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 7.75 hours
Official Counter: Sean Jenniskens
Observers: Devin Williamson, Donald Pye, Michael Williamson,
Rayfield Pye
Visitors:
Many visitors to the tower on this Thanksgiving Sunday, which included;
Mike and his grandson Devin, the Pye brothers, and a couple from Cambridge.
Weather:
Majority of the day was southwest winds, starting off very strong but
gradually easing off as the day progressed. Full cloud when the count
started, but the clouds moved out by mid-morning.
Raptor Observations:
All things considered (ie. poor winds), it was a decent flight today, with
the majority of the flight being Turkey Vultures (400), along with Sharpies
(59). I expected a much better Peregrine flight today with the southwest
winds and the crazy numbers hawk cliff had gotten yesterday, but only 2
were counted.
Non-raptor Observations:
Another new seasonal highcount of Blue Jays today with 15,800 being
tallied. Full eBird checklist at:
http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39764061 A total of 22 Monarchs were
counted migrating today.
Predictions:
Moderate north winds along with a chance of rain first thing in the
morning. Wind will stay north throughout the day but decrease in speed.
