Bob, Tom B, Ronnie, Keith and Mac. Weather: Another beautiful day weather wise though strong SW winds likely pushed many more birds inland. However, the humidity started low and the air dried out very quickly which got the birds moving right from the start of the day. Temps were not too warm hitting a high of 18C. Just a bit of cloud cover 20% to start and fading away to 10% by the end of the count period today. Raptor Observations: The flight was up and moving very early today and obviously, as suspected many birds pushed into the area and roosted locally overnight. Total birds for the day was 3,372 with the majority being TVs (3,290) with 600 to 700 crossing through each hour before tailing off in the last hour. We added another couple of Peregrines to the season total along with more Bald Eagles (8), N. Harriers (18), Sharpies (27), Cooper's Hawks (4), Redtails (12), Am. Kestrels (10) and a single Merlin. Non-raptor Observations: Not much reported on the non-raptor front... Canada Geese, Am. Crows, Killdeer, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Tree Swallows, Common Loons and another 220 Blue Jays. Monarch count: 81 Predictions: More of the same tomorrow with an almost identical forecast. I suspect there won't be as many TVs down as far as the lake so the flight will likely be smaller but of course ANY SW winds can bring Peregrines and other species along the cliff. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
