Good Morning birders! A notable exodus of recent migrant songbirds last night has prompted birders to look harder for the cryptic birds. We were greeted with cooler temperatures this morning, which fortunately pushed the warblers and flycatchers close to the ground to forage.
The major highlight this morning was a MISSISSIPPI KITE observed by a few lucky birders over the Woodland Nature Trail and again over the Cactus Field, then south again near Blue Heron. A red morph EASTERN SCREECH-OWL is currently on display between post 6-7 on Woodland Nature Trail. A MOURNING WARBLER was seen on the Woodland Nature Trail in the same spot as yesterday, two PROTHONOTARY WARBLERs between Bridges E and F. There were a number of WHITE-EYED VIREOs in various locations like they have been in recent days, including one near a YELLOW BREASTED CHAT at the north end of Cactus Field. Also a pair of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen in the Cactus Field. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen in southern part of the parking lot at Northwest Beach. Birding in the park is a lot fun today, so come out and enjoy the show!
