Quite a great day for the last day of the Festival. The low clouds cleared up
with fairly stiff south-west winds and as the sun came out many species began
to sing.
At the Tip, there was a moderately busy reverse movement, involving a few
interesting species such as RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, BOBOLINK, and possible
DICKCISSEL. A couple of flocks of WHIMBREL flew by. The Tip itself had
SANDERLING, DUNLIN, and a few WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER.
A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was also noted near the Tip.
Pockets of feeding birds have been reported with the most activity being along
the Redbud Trail near the bench at the clearing in the cedars. About 10 species
of warbler were seen there, including a male MOURNING, WILSON'S, CANADA and a
male CONNECTICUT.
There were still about 4 PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS on the Woodland Nature Trail,
near bridges A and F. The trail is still flooded on the east side.
Another CONNECTICUT WARBLER was located on the seasonal trail north of the old
Tilden boardwalk along with another CANADA WARBLER.
A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was spotted near bridge F.

Although the festival is winding down there is still some good birding to be
done with later migrants still moving through. No further reports will be
posted unless something of note is discovered. Thanks for your positive
comments about our posts. It has been an exciting year.
