As per a number of locations throughout southern Ontario, a couple of pelicans have visited Komoka Provincial Park.
One of the local birders contacted me to say that she had a heads up that there were 2 pelicans on the north side of the park in the ponds there. She was able to locate one later this afternoon. I was able to see that one later in the evening, as did a few other London birders. It was still there as light was failing, so could be roosting overnight. The bird is located, as mentioned, on the north side of the Park, where the entrance to the parking area is on Komoka Road. Directions. If coming from London, use Oxford Street West through Kilworth, and as you cross the bridge on the Thames River, it becomes Glendon Drive. Continue west on Glendon, to the intersection with Komoka Road, in the village of Komoka, at the stop light. Turn left, south, and travel on Komoka Road, and just before a curve and hill going down to the river there is a parking area for the Provincial Park on the east side of the road. Park and walk out on the most southerly trail, next to the sewage treatment plant until a view of the ponds allows you to look for the pelican. It was roosting towards the back part of the pond. It was near a group of Mute Swans. Note there is a Provincial Park fee for parking and entering the area. There are a variety of ways to get there if coming from the west or south. If coming from the west, use Glendon Drive to get to the intersection with Komoka Road and turn south, right at the intersection. There is also an interchange (82) from highway 402 on to Glendon Drive.
