Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Highlights: There were increased signs of migration with the arrival of waterfowl and sparrows. Shorebirds, however, remain scarce. Please note that for the next 4-5 weeks the Amherst and Wolfe Island ferries are running at half-capacity due to mandatory 5-year dry-dock maintenance of the Wolfe Islander III. Be prepared for delays. Here are the highlights of the last week: SNOW GOOSE - a single bird continued at Amherstview through to 10th at least. TUNDRA SWAN - birds had returned to the area by 7th with 12 birds noted in Button Bay, Wolfe Island. There were seen at a further 2 locations on the island the next day. SURF SCOTER - the Cataraqui Bay, Kingston, bird was last seen on 5th, with more typical sightings also coming from Prince Edward Point. RED-NECKED GREBE - a single bird, first seen in Cataraqui Bay, Kingston, on 2nd, continued to 6th. Another was seen at Prince Edward Point on 6th. SANDHILL CRANE - a single bird was seen at Big Sandy Bay, Wolfe Island, on 4th. HUDSONIAN GODWIT - just outside the area, a single bird was seen at Hamilton Wetland, Prince Edward County, on 7th. PECTORAL SANDPIPER - a single was seen at Amherstview Sewage lagoons on 5th, with 2 at Wilton Creek, Morven, on 10th. GOLDEN EAGLE - birds were noted at the traditional migration spot of Prince Edward Point on 5th, 10th and 11th. NORTHERN GOSHAWK - an adult was seen chasing Blue Jays at a property near Amherstview on 5th. PEREGRINE FALCON - there was just a single observation this week of a bird seen from the Amherst Island ferry on 7th. CAROLINA WREN - a single bird was noted over several days this week at Chaffey's Locks. LAPLAND LONGSPUR - the first 2 birds of the season were seen on Wolfe Island on 8th with another reported from Amherst island on 9th. NELSON'S SPARROW - outside the area, a skulking bird at HR Frink CA north of Belleville, was seen on 11th. SCARLET TANAGER - the last of the season was seen north of Kingston on 5th. INDIGO BUNTING - the last of the season was seen at Prince Edward Point on 5th.
