Early to the tower were Nicole a Graduate Student from the University of Windsor and her dad Barry, and Kim and Richard from Toronto. The afternoon brought multiple families, and people from Amherstburg, Windsor, Kingsville and Oxley. We welcomed Tara and her grandson Aidan a great young birder, and Leon. Special thank yous to Cramer and Dan Lumm for spending the entire day with me on the tower, and to Liz and Hugh Kent for helping spot the birds in the afternoon. Weather: Beautiful sunny skies today with winds all day from the SW, gusting up to 25 kmph, but strong all day long. Cloudless skies, temperatures starting the count were only 11.4 C, warming to 17.5 C by the afternoon. Raptor Observations: The strong south west winds pushed the raptors to the North side of the marsh for the most part. Turkey Vultures flew in numbers-1025, and we had a smattering of other birds. 10 Raptor species in all today, our highlight was the second Northern Goshawk of the season on the north shore of the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: The high winds kept the song birds down for most of the day. We had Blue Jays moving in the morning- 1090, and 50 Tree Swallows feeding for several hours over the ponds near the tower. Duck numbers are once again building in the marsh. A nice flyby of a Common Loon was a treat today full list available at:https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S60599179 Predictions: Partly cloudy skies with winds from the west. Temperatures will be similar to today. Happy Thanksgiving to all the families in Canada. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Cindy Isenhoff ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
