Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter: Maryse Gagné

Observers: Dave Martin, Dorothy McLeer, Elizabeth Kent, Hugh Kent,
                  Larry Ludwicki, Linda Wladarski

Visitors:
Thank you to all our visitors and counters who came down today! Thanks to
Larry Ludwicki, Hugh and Liz Kent, Neil and Anne, Noel and Juliette (who
came twice in one day!), Dave Martin and Lind Wladarski, John Barnes, Lee,
Don and April from LaSalle, Gaspar Horvath and Dorothy McClear. We
appreciate all of your help spotting raptor and very distant kettles of
Turkey Vultures.

Weather:
Really gorgeous day on the tower with light winds from the North-West all
morning. Winds shifted to the South-West around noon, and after that, not
much flew over the tower. Not an extensive cloud cover for most of day, so
raptors flew quite high above us.

Raptor Observations:
We had a very good morning counting raptors, when the winds were blowing
from the North-West. Red-tailed Hawks (31), Turkey Vultures and
Red-shouldered Hawks (3) all flew very high above us late in the morning
accompanied by Sharp-shinned Hawks (44). After the winds shifted to the
South-West, we did not count many raptors. Only in the last hour did we
count 1,288 Turkey Vultures, bringing our total count to 3,212 TVs for the
day.

Non-raptor Observations:
Many non-raptors species flew around us today, including our first
Dark-eyed Juncos, White-crowned and White-throated Sparrows and an
Orange-crowned Warbler.
One of our highlight came from a Tundra Swan flying over the marsh,
hopefully we'll get more soon!
Our usual migrants still came in big numbers; Starlings (256), Blue Jays
(2,240), Goldfinches (112), and Red-winged Blackbird (1,320).
Lastly, we are still counting high numbers of ducks on the marsh including
Wood Ducks (4), Gadwall (180), Pintails (9), Wigeon (94), Ring-necked Duck
(398) and Green-winged Teal (2).

Predictions:
Tomorrow we are expecting winds to blow from the South and South-East, with
some clouds for most of the day. We hope to see more Turkey Vultures,
Sharp-shinned Hawks, and Northern Harriers.
