Hello everyone: Dave Moffatt and I revisited the townsend lagoons yesterday. The cattle egrets were not present. However, we got spectacular views of an American avocet in flight as it was being hunted by a northern harrier.
We also saw the white rumpled sandpiper, about six Dunlin, greater and lesser yellow legs, A short billed dowitcher, and a single semi palmated Sandpiper 11 duck species. Along The hedge row leading into the lagoons, there was a fine selection of first fall white crowned sparrow’s, a few song sparrows and a vesper sparrow. I should point out that there is a new elaborate gate that is likely very effective for keeping vehicles out. However, there is a gap that makes it very easy for a pedestrian to get through.
