Hello All,
Apologies for the late report (technical glitch). This morning at 10:44am Stew
Hamill and I observed an adult Pink-footed Goose on the Westside of CR 9 about
60 meters south of the bridge. SEE GOOGLE MAP URL BELOW. The bird was at least
~500 meters on west side of Hwy 9. I managed to get several diagnostic
digiscope photos despite the wind. Smallish brown goose with distinctly darker
brown head, and relatively short, dark brown neck, contracting with lighter
brown breast and body. Shortish bill, mostly black with orangey-pink band
across upper mandible. Mostly orange-pink lower mandible. Pale Fringes to upper
wing coverts forming distinct pale rows of lines across the upper parts, and
distinct pale edges to tertials. Also distinct white line along flanks similar
to white fronted goose. Seen swimming in water initially so leg colour seen.
But observed 15 mins afterwards while preening on mud, and bright pink legs
seen.

This section on Hwy 9 has a slightly wider verge. But be careful if you pull
off there, there are often heavy vehicles moving fast on this road.
THERE IS A SAFE PARKING AREA TO PULL OFF OFF ON THE SW CORNER OF THE BRIDGE ON
CONSESSION RD 12. The bird is also viewable to the west of the farm buildings
on Consession Rd 12.

REMEMBER- IF YOU INTEND ON GOING TO SEE THIS BIRD- PLEASE OBSERVE SOCAIL
DISTANCING BY KEEPING AT LEAST 6FT APART FROM YOUR FELLOW BIRDERS.

BE SAFE!

Happy birding,
Gerard Phillips.
