Thank you, Christian. For me, this looks to be a great improvement.
It's more useful to me to think of which backups I want to KEEP, rather
than which I want to DELETE.
My "logic" for retaining backups is, which I currently implement manually.
1. Keep the oldest backup I have (presumably, the first one I ever made)
indefinitely
2. Keep the last backup of the YEAR indefinitely
3. Keep the last backup of the MONTH for 13 months, unless it is #1 or
#2, above, in which case keep it per that rule
4. Keep the last backup of the DAY for 8 days, unless it is #1, #2, or
#3, in which case keep it per that rule
