Ben keeps saying this, and he's still wrong. :-)

We'll certainly use an existing compiler infrastructure transitionally.
Perhaps LLVM, perhaps the GO back end, but we have to start somewhere.

But the LLVM infrastructure isn't type-preserving. Anybody who looks at my
CV and thinks that I'm going to leave a fundamental confidence-maintenance
technique on the table over the long term - and a 10% perf hit along with it
- doesn't know me.

But he's also right: one step at a time.
