Section "Screen"
    Identifier "screen1"
    Device "RIVA TNT2"
    Monitor "Trinitron"
    DefaultColorDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
EndSection
to increase the res, just add "1280x1024" in front of "1152x864" on the
'Modes' line

The Monitor Section is pretty simple too:
Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Trinitron"
    VendorName "Dell"
    ModelName "P780"
    HorizSync 30-85
    VertRefresh 48-120
EndSection

you can look up the specs on your monitor, and just put the horiz/vert
sync rates in.

Yours looks like you must have run XConfigurator at some point. It
switches your nice, easy to configure XF86Config-4 file to unreadable
gunk. If don't run XConfigurator, the file is a breeze.
