My favorite python reference, if you're looking for a book recommendation, is David Beazley's Python Essential Reference. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735710910 It's very concise, the tutorial chapter is only 11 pages--but it has all the info you'll ever need. I liked it so much I bought the second edition recently which covers Python 2.1.
