For a really nice interface, they need a way to zoom with the mouse.
Eg right click drag zooms, keeping the point under the mouse constant
as you zoom. The combination of left pan with right zoom is *very*
effective -- eg the way mouse navigation works in matplotlib.
I found it hard to zoom on google maps because you constantly have to
recenter the image -- but it is an awesome data set and a big step
forward in navigability.
