Looks interesting. Personally, I have been watching the Access Linux
Platform as I have been a Palm O/S user since 2002.

Currently I use a Sony Clie TG50 and I use it for a number of business
applications such as send/receive email and MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
creation and editing. Even now some Windows Mobile and Blackberry
"smartphones" don't support creation of these documents. Sony was a head of
its time 5 years ago when I purchased my TG50 which supports mp3 playback,
voice recording, movie playback, MS document creation and editing, email and
syncing with my inbox and Outlook contacts. I'll also note that my PDA
stills works due to its durable magnesium alloy body where I see some who
replace their smartphone every year because they break under use.

I know things have come a long way since 2003 and if OpenMoko can bring
together the right mix of fun, business, compatibility, expandability and
innovation then I would love to evaluate it, add it to my belt and replace 2
devices with one. Everything released since 2003 hasn't been innovative
enough including the iphone which is very close to what I would purchase
but, where is the document compatibility? (and I don’t want to buy a Mac or
itunes)

OpenMoko looks pretty and fun but, it's missing things that it will need to
be successful. Hopefully the offer made at the end of the video to
developers will drive the innovation this market segment needs to make this
product successful - that's the benefit of open source and the potential for
this product to be better than others.

That's my rant on smartphones for now.

Regards

Keith

Subject: [biz] OpenMoko rev. 2

The guys from Koolu wrote me and said they have a block of rev 2.
OpenMoko phones coming in at the end of April
(http://koolu.com/Koolu-WE-Appliance/WE-Phone.html; they do come in
black). If anyone is interested in pre-ordering before they go up on
their website, email me offlist and perhaps we can do a group order if
there's enough interest.

Cheers,
spd
(no, I don't get a kickback ;-), but yes I have some stock)
