Greetings folks,
I have been very busy traveling and had no time to respond earlier. I
think it is absolutely critical that I clear out several wrong concepts
about the status of phpDomain.
We are in no way abandoning the development of the phpDomain product
line. We have temporarily ceased development of new payment gateways
while we were pondering the sale options, but here is the status and
future plans:
- Development is continuing, and we are still maintaining the product,
and most surely supporting it.
- We have just completed the support for AUSRegistry for phpDomain,
now included with the pro version. This is essentially nearly a
full re-write of phpDomain for their system.
- If phpDomain is sold, one of the key criteria is that the new buyer
will continue to develop the product. More than likely the very
same developer will continue work on the project. There should not
be any concerns about this.
- phpDomain is in fact now based on the LGPL class that Colin wrote.
We specifically rewrote the base to include his code to clear out
any licensing issues there were. Any "reintegration" makes no
sense because it is already there! Might as well save your time.
As far as splitting off the project, I find that a curious suggestion.
Although I realize that is the right given that we have licensed the
base under the LGPL, I remind you that we have invested thousands of
dollars for the development, and I think it is only fair that we ask
for basic support by having people buy the PRO version. Use the LGPL
to see the quality of the code, use it to see if it works on your
systems, but if you're going to be making money from our product, it
is only fair that we ask for some basic compensation to pay for the
development and the sweat and work that went into the project.
I am going to be making a separate announcement, we will be setting
the price for phpDomain to $49.95 per installation or lower. At the
price level, it seems a lot of people are more comfortable with the
price, so I think we'll just leave it there.
The bottom line is this: we have in no way abandoned the development
of the client and supporting it. If anyone buys the whole product
from us (ie rights to it) they will definitely continue to develop the
product, and we will do our best to stipulate that in a transfer. No
one has abandoned anything, and there are no plans on doing so unless
the project is purchased by another party, in which case more than
likely they will hire our developer to continue the work.
Sincerely,
)))))
