Subject: [BKHockey] nhl playoff pool

nhl playoff pool Gents, I think it’s time to start thinking about an NHL
playoff pool. This pool is a bit different than most pools, but also,
hopefully, more fun.

The only thing I need to know now is whether you’re in. Friends are also
invited.

The rules are:

MAIN RULES (for $20 real cash)
- Every player receives $1,000 play money.
- They can use this play money to bet however they like on the first round.
They can put all their money on Detroit, or they can spread their money out
over all the series. ($12 PIT, $12 BOS, and so on)
- You must pick a series winner (if you bet on a series). Doesn't matter how
many games the series go.
- If you lose a series, you lose all the play money you bet on that series. If
you win, you win in proportion to how much you bet alongside the other winners.
(So, if I bet $20 on DET and there's a total of $100 on the series, yet I'm
the only player that picked DET, then I win all $100 for that series. If
another person picked DET too, but bet $40 of their money, they'd win 2/3 of
the pot and I'd win 1/3. If a third person had picked DET and bet $20, the pot
would be split 1/2, 1/4 and a 1/4. Conversely, if everyone had picked DET,
everyone just gets their money back.)
- At the end of the round we tote up who won the most play money. Each player
can carry over their winnings to the next round and bet as they see fit. The
more money you won, the more money you can bet. Also, *everyone* gets an
additional $200 of play money. And at each new round everyone gets the
additional $200 (so you're never out).
- We repeat this until the cup is trotted out.
- There is no requirement to bet all of your play money in each round.
- At the end we add up who won the most play money, and the real cash gets
split three ways: 1st place gets 70%, 2nd 20%, and 3rd 10%.

SIDE BET (for an extra $5 real cash)
- Between the 1st and 2nd rounds (but not before) we'll share with everyone how
you bet in the 1st round (totally transparent, who you picked and how much you
bet).
- For $5 you can then bet on who you think will win the whole thing.
- For example, I see that Joe is a great better and picker, so I bet my money
that Joe will be the ultimate winner. You can only pick one person. And you
can pick yourself, if you like.
- At the end the pot gets split evenly between those who correctly picked the
winner.
- If no one correctly picked the winner everyone gets their money back.
