Growing your own fodder can save quite a bit on the sheep feed bills.
It can be a lot of extra work, though. If you do choose to grow
fodder for your sheep, make sure you give them only 2-3% of their
body weight in fodder, plus a hay ration for the necessary roughage.
Remember that fodder is essentially water wrapped in a thin cellulose
cover. A former breeder here in Colorado decided to replace 100% of
his sheep feed with fodder and ended up killing half his flock. The
remaining half was horribly malnourished before other breeders could
rescue them.
