JAMES,
I HAVE USED SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF TAGS FROM LOCAL FEED STORES AND AM CURRENTLY USING PREMIER 2X TAGS THAT WERE ISSUED TO ME BY THE USDA. I AM LOCATED IN HOOD COUNTY, TEXAS. MY FAMILY IS LOCATED IN MILLS COUNTY, TEXAS AND SURROUNDING AREAS. WE EACH HAVE DIFFERENT BREEDS RANGING FROM BARBADOS TO DORPER AND SOME WOOL PRODUCERS. THE ONLY GOATS ANYONE DEALS WITH ARE BOER. I AM SPINNING OFF INTO A DORPER BARBADOS CROSS AT THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. ( 50/50 )

Hello Adam,

You and your family have been very fortunate not to have any tags rip out of all the animals that you and your family have and have sold in the past...thousands I am assuming.  What type of ear tags have you been using?  Also what type of USDA are you using?  It is great that you and your relatives are making all this money with sheep.  Also what area do you and your family live and have your animals located?

Carol brought up a concern of mine regarding the free tags that USDA provides.  I tagged my flock for the first time a month ago.  My 7 month old ewes now all have ripped ears from the tags pulling out.  Every one.  Not only is this a waste of time but it seems cruel.  Is there any other humane way of tagging them..   I really hate to see torn ears.  There is not a lot of ear there to begin with!!!!!

Has anyone found suitable tags??
