Blackbox is not Gnome compliant. You can try what I did: issue gaim or
gicu in an xterm in Blackbox. The Gnome panels will open and then you
will be warned the Blackbox and Gnome don't play together.
Even better, don't try my experiment; something might bust.
LICQ does work with Blackbox.
