That's the slit, and there are two applications in it: a small cyan one at the
top which is a dockapp (don't know which, see "dockapps" on Google); and the
other big one with black and dark blue colors is gkrellm, which is one tool
that offers all kinds of "applets".
Many people new (or even those not so new) to BlackBox don't know that dockapps
("slit" apps intended for WindowMaker) also run on BlackBox as well as many other
window managers. And if they don't, there's wmswallow which can "swallow" pretty
much any app into the slit.
