Here's how i use wmswallow to get SuSE/KDE's kinternet into my slit:

wmswallow -geometry 55x57 -noshape kinternet kinternet --swallow &

I don't think that the geometry and the noshape parameters are
necessary, the first "kinternet" is the windowname that wmswallow
watches for and the second is the command it launches. (the --swallow is
an option of kinternet itself, telling it that it will be placed in a
slit of some sort) The window named "windowname" that is expected to
pop up when the "command" is executed automatically goes into the slit,
so AFAIU, your xload commandline would be something like:

 wmswallow xload xload &

i've just tried it and it works for me.
(btw, i'm using wmsysmon for that xload function - without wmswallow)
HTH,
Andreas
