Simple, it doesn't compile. In four years, I have never seen KDE completely compile (this is under several revisions across different versions of 3 operating systems). I've heard tales of this monstrosity building, but have never seen it myself. Other than that, it's not that hard: I primarily use gaim, mozilla-firebird, sylpheed-claws, xmms, gvim and eterm. None of which require QT or KDE. Which is good, because no matter how fast your machine is, loading KDE apps outside of KDE takes forever.
