I don't use gnome-settings-daemon, so I can't help with any specific
quirks. Have you tried making sure it is executed, first of all? How do
you start your X session, do you use startx? If you place a test command
next to gnome-settings-daemon in .xinitrc, such as `date > /tmp/test`,
does it get executed?

Umm, and what do you mean by "get GTK+ themes working with Blackbox"? GTK+
themes work regardless what window manager you use. What exactly is it
you're trying to accomplish by using this gnome-settings-daemon? I for one
have had no trouble using GTK+ and Gnome application without it, in fact
it's the first time I've ever heard of it.
