Just to add some more data to chew on, I decided to watch my X
server as I started up this morning. After starting X with bb
and bbkeys, then bringing up an xterm and running top, it was
up to 26MB RSS. Launching another xterm brought it up to 31MB
RSS. After that I could bring up xterms to my heart's desire
without affecting X's memory use.
Swapping between desktops didn't have any effect, but when I
ran netscape it jumped to 41MB, 45MB with messenger.
As a comparison, I tried the same thing with wmaker. It started
at 19MB after my first xterm, and jumped to 20 with netscape, 21
with messenger.
This is a slack 7.1beta system with xfree 3.3.6.
