Hello - I have found that the memory usage of the X server can be greatly reduced by reducing session.cacheMax in .blackboxrc. I saw my usage drop from over 50% to 30% by reducing it from 200 to 20. ( I am lazy and just using top to observe memory usage ). Setting session.cacheLife to 0 also had a good effect.
