Thanks for the ideas, y'all. I'll give them a try at work.
Due to firewall issues, my hands are sort of tied. Besides
email, I can only really use http and ftp.. One way, of
course. (even outgoing ssh is shut off.. don't ask).
I'm not sure I'll have the flexibility to install packages,
I'll have to ask the admin. He's comfortable with me
installing things in my own private directory, but system
wide he's a little concerned. More headaches.
I'll see if I can get him to upgrade gcc today.. When I
looked at the log file, it's possible that the libraries and
headers for the version of gcc I was using are for 2.6, and
I'm running on 2.7.. Could this be an issue?
