I think not. Making this an option will make alot of people happy (folks
with laptops and low res. mainly). I don't think alot of people will
actually feel annoyed with having this as an option, especially if the
default leaves things as they currently are.

In short, make both the slit and bar optional, defaulted to 'on',
additionally having the features better described by "Roberto
A. F. Almeida" in a reply from the debate:

Definantly run-time IMO. Gives the user the control, and is more easily
changable if the user so decire :) Any con's and pro's to the run-time
option ?
