I'm not sure if this would work, but try gzipping the snap.pcf file. I
run Slack 7.1 with XFree-4 and I get the fonts fine. If you take a look
in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc you will see that all the .pcf fonts in
there are also gzipped. Just make sure you run mkfontdir and xset fp
rehash again after whacking in your freshly gzipped font.
