Much snippage ensues...

Glad to hear it. Sorry you need such a big crutch. ;)

You can middle-click on the desktop, which brings up a list of all
desktops and a list of iconified applications. You can also take this
menu and tear it off (grab the menu's title, drag it somewhere else on
the screen), and that will make it semi-persistent. This is far from
optimal, but it seems to work for most of us. Opinions are like
armpits, though, everyone has a couple of them, and they all stink.

You'd probably like KPanel, but it doesn't work with bb 0.6x.x, only
0.5x.x. You can integrate bb as KDE's window manager, which works
pretty well (Dan Williams has posted an excellent set of documents
concerning this procedure, http://kbb.draknor.net/, IIRC).

Not yet. I've heard other people grumble about this as well, so maybe
somebody will write a patch to do this.

That's odd. I used to have kcontrol handle my mouse speed (see Dan
Williams' site concerning this), but since I've removed all traces of
KDE from my system, I use a tool called GXSet
(http://freshmeat.net/appindex/1999/07/11/931676263.html), which depends
on glib/GTK+ to compile. Once the .xset.sh script is to your taste,
though, you may merrily go about removing gxset :).

Don't forget to pop into #blackbox on irc.openprojects.net for real-time
help :).
