This is how you install a .pcf font using the commandline:
as root
mv fontname.pcf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc
cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc
/usr/X11R6/bin/mkfontdir
/usr/X11R6/bin/xset -fp rehash
Then, for redhat-based distros, type: /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart
Hope this will do the trick.
