One thing you may be seeing is that most people, when they reply to posts on
the list, just hit "reply all", and then don't edit out the other addresses in
the To and CC list, so if the post is a reply to a reply to a reply to
something you said, you get two copies, one directly to you because your name
is still in the CC list, and the copy that came through the mailing list.
I am scrupulous about editing out the names on the To and CC lists, but I'm
one of only one or two who bother.
