I think the best solution would be to only commit changes to disk when they 
are made, instead of on exit. That way, when a user opened up an xterm and 
edited the .blackboxrc file, he would be editing the current properties. He 
could then save the file and restart blackbox. Having his hand made changes 
appear.

You're right that if the user hand edited the file, then changed something 
via the menu, his changes would be over written, but this could be fixed if 
we occasionally stat the file, and reload it when it has been changed. 
Therefore blackbox will understand his hand changes, before he changes 
anything from the menu.

Anyway, I'll look into it...
