Thanks for your help. I'll try this as soon as I get home.
I tried a few things like:
[exec] (vim) {'xterm vim'}
and
[exec] (vim) {vim|}
and
[exec] (vim) {vim}
none of which worked, and when I dropped out of
x, my shell would be, well, busy still interpreting
the data sent to it when trying to launch vim.
