Just thought I'd drop the list a line with an easy but nifty trick: I wanted to put perfmeter in the Slit on my sparcstation, since I didn't feel like porting all of the various linux-only dock apps to Solaris (although I hope to have a patch for the bbtool that monitors load in a bit). So I came across this WindowMaker dockapp called "wmswallow", that swallows an arbitrary X window and makes it withdrawn so that the slit knows to grab it. Okay, perfmeter in the slit, yay. And then I started thinking about what else I could put in there. Result: commandline in the Slit. I find it works best with a transparent rxvt-based term because that way you see the gradient, but plain old xterm will work too. Get wmswallow at http://www.burse.uni-hamburg.de/~friedel/software/wmswallow.html Run your terminal program with your favorite arguments plus "-name dockterm". Again, transparent is good. Be sure to shut off the scrollbar (+sb) and choose a small font ("-fn 6x10" works well). Then grab it with wmswallow: wmswallow -focus -geom 116x48 dockterm and you've got an approximately 20x4 xterm in the Slit, ready to start whatever command you please. -Rich -- ------------------------------ Rich Lafferty --------------------------- Sysadmin/Programmer, Instructional and Information Technology Services Concordia University, Montreal, QC (514) 848-7625 ------------------------- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----------------------
