the line i originally posted works here as a bash alias - it brings up a
nice big sky-blue aterm ... i \ escape the # in the alias ... i was
trying variations to see what would work.  I pasted the alias into my
menu and tried several variations on the syntax.

i DO like that the changes are testable 'on the fly' even with vi still
open on the menu file; just write out the changes and try 'em out :-)
