: Happens in KDE and windowmaker as well so it is probably not a blackbox
: problem.

Recent discussion on the Window Maker mailing list indicates that
several Java dialog windows are setting spurious WM_SIZE_HINTS with a
program-specified minimum and maximum size of, for example, 500x300,
but a program-specified size of 1x1.

More info is probably available in the mailing list archives at
www.windowmaker.org.
