if you start X from the console with startx, then ~/.xinit is the important file, and if you use kdm/gdm/xdm you have to edit your ~/.xsession file. best is to keep these files identical. but i think you have to be able to add blackbox to the menu of kdm, i just don't know exactly where. this would be the cleanest solution using kdm. i found something for you: http://www.penguinmagazine.com/Reference/kde/kdm/index-2.html bye, tomas
